About GRRRWA

What the heck is a GRRRWA, anyway?

GRRRWA is an acronym for Grand Rapids Region Romance Writers of America, a local chapter of the national Romance Writers of America organization. Please visit www.rwanational.org for more information.

What kind of stuff do your members write?

As you can probably guess from the name, GRRRWA members write romance. The type of romances they write, however, vary. From short stories to novels, young adult to erotica, writers from all sub-genres are welcome at GRRRWA meetings.

Do I have to be published to join?

No! Most of our members are unpublished at this time but working toward publication. Our chapter is focused on teaching pre-published writers and supporting our published authors.

What are the requirements for joining GRRRWA?

To join, you must be a member of RWA National. Afterward, you are asked to complete a short membership form for GRRRWA and submit it along with your GRRRWA dues.

How much does it cost to be involved in GRRRWA?

Membership in the GRRRWA chapter is $25.00 annually in addition to your yearly RWA National dues. See the RWA National Website or contact our Membership chair, Cheryl Steimel, for information on yearly RWA dues and registration. Members are also responsible for their own lunches and conference fees.

Where is GRRRWA located?

GRRRWA has no permanent offices, but our meetings are held in Grand Rapids, Michigan and outlying neighborhoods. Check our schedule of upcoming meetings to find out more.

When and how often do you meet?

In order to avoid conflicting with our neighboring chapter, all GRRRWA meetings will be held on the second saturday of each month.

What happens at your meetings? Will I have to read my writing in front of everyone?

GRRRWA meetings consist of a short business meeting, lunch, and a program. We also share member news and recognize the acheivments of our members from the previous month.

You'll never be forced to read your work in front of an audience, but we will ask you to participate in writing exercises and programs designed to hone your craft.

Can I visit a meeting and check out GRRRWA before joining?

Yes! Visitors are welcome. You may visit our meetings twice before we ask you to join.
